    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Hospice Clinical Leader, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of care to residents by motivating and empowering the team. The LPN works cohesively with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the nursing process (Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) is individualized and ongoing, such that changing needs of residents are addressed and met. This is a leadership role requiring skills as a resident advocate, facilitator and change agent.


    In accordance with Covenant Care’s mission, vision, and values, this position is responsible for ensuring that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures. Provides support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident’s end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.


    • Graduate of an approved Practical Nurse Program required
    • Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required
    • Current CPR / First Aid Certification / Equivalency required
    • One (1) year of experience in a Hospice / Palliative Care facility required
    • Dementia education an asset
    • Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills and able to utilize professional judgment
    • Strong assessment skills and computer skills an asset
    • Exhibits open and sincere approach to relating to people by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
    • Recognizes and responds effectively to verbal and non-verbal cues with exceptional active listening skills
    • Ability to cope with moral distress regarding resident/family decisions that involve risk to the client while preserving resident's dignity and self worth during interactions
    • Ability to cope with frequent changes such as daily routine, workload, shifts and resident needs and possess exceptional multi-tasking and time management skills
