  • Job Description

    Covenant Care is currently seeking a reliable and jack of all trades maintenance worker for our Hospice site in St. Albert. We are looking for the right person to manage the day to day maintenance issues that come up in the site. The successful candidate must be personable, motivated and solution focused.


    Reporting to the Project Manager and a dotted line to the Site Leader the Maintenance worker performs specific maintenance, monitoring, testing and adjustments as required to various building, grounds, building environmental systems and equipment, as well as resident care equipment. The right candidate would exercise good judgement and precedent in determining work methods used in accordance with the care team and in accordance with Covenant Care’s Mission, Vision, and Values, regulations and procedures.


    This is a small site that requires a handyperson skilled at a wide range of repairs both in the exterior and interior of the building. Your daily activities could include: daily checks to life safety equipment, performing temperature checks, maintenance of minor equipment (boilers, air handling units, mixing valves, water softeners, etc.), drywall wall repairs, minor painting, minor plumbing, and minor electrical.

    You will need to be a person in our organization who is collaborative and thrives in cultivating and maintaining effective working relationships. You will have a 5th class power engineering certificate or equivalent and bring with you one to two years of experience in building maintenance.  

    This is a Part-time/permanent role with a benefit program. This position would be suitable for a semi retired person with a maintenance back ground or someone looking for Part Time work.


    When Applying


    Formal Education:

    • Completion of a High School Diploma, along with 5th Class Power Engineering certification, boiler operator or equivalent are required.
    • Journeyman certificate in a related trade would be an asset, but not required.
    • Must maintain an Alberta Boiler Safety Association 5th Class power engineer’s certification or obtain one within the first 3 months of employment.


    • 1-2 years experience in building maintenance required, preferably in a health or senior’s care setting.
    • 3-5 years experience in the general trades, mechanical, plumbing and electrical an asset.

    Special Requirements

    • Must possess sound oral and written communication skills.
    • Must have computer Knowledge using MS office, Outlook, Internet explorer, Chrome (Maintenance requests, reporting and work orders will be computer based).
    • Knowledge of regulations and municipal ordinances applicable within a health care setting would be an asset.
    • Able to spend considerable time walking through the facility.
    • Must be able to adapt to different physical environments, working inside, outside and in enclosed areas.
