    About the role:


    The Payroll Accountant would be reporting to the Controller, and is responsible for the timely completion of the full-cycle bi-weekly payroll of all Covenant Care & Covenant Living employees in Alberta. This position requires a keen understanding of payroll processes combined with an in-depth knowledge of employment standards and legislative requirements in order to provide Covenant Care & Covenant Living employees with confidence that their payroll is being processed in an accurate and efficient manner.


    This position is responsible for timely administration of payroll processes for nine separate sites geographically dispersed throughout the province. Challenges arise from differing payroll requirements at different sites, dealing with a mix of employee groups that have different requirements, tight timelines.


    Decision making is largely independent and problems are solved using a solid theoretical understanding of payroll rules, income tax laws, etc., and subject matter expertise with the payroll system.

    When Applying

    The successful candidate must have:


    • Formal education or training in payroll administration, including PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner).
    • Knowledge of employment standards and related labour laws.
    • Excellent customer service skills with a will-developed professional phone manner and communication skills (both written and verbal).
    • Strong organizational, prioritization and follow-up skills.
    • Ability to analyze problems and provide solutions.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
    • Understanding of Union agreements would be an asset.
    • Experience with QHR and strong Microsoft Excel skills would be an asset.
