    Position Summary:

     

    Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Assistant provides primary support and backup to the Corporate Accountant, assists with special projects as required and assists in developing accounting policies. When needed the Accounting Assistant also provides additional support to the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions.

     

    The Accounting Assistant is responsible for assisting the Corporate Accountant with the accuracy of monthly and annual financial statements and schedules, preparation of monthly lead sheets, accounting reconciliations, the preparation of journal entries, providing assistance on special projects, and working with the Corporate Accountant in the completion of the year-end external audit.

     

    A/P - the Accounting Assistant will support the A/P department in disbursing non-payroll accounts payable to individuals, suppliers, corporations, and other entities. This includes maintaining ledgers, credit balances, and account irregularities. The Accounting Assistant will also ensure the timely and accurate processing of payment documents such as Non-Purchase order requisitions, invoices, expense/travel reimbursements, and any other accounting transactions related to A/P management.

     

    A/R - the Accounting Assistant will support the A/R department in collecting accounts receivable from individuals, residents, customers, corporations, and other entities. The Accounting Assistant will also assist in scanning, soft filing and invoice distribution.

     

    Payroll - The Accounting Assistant will support the payroll department for Covenant Care & Covenant Living, including benefit reconciliations, addressing pay enquires and other tasks as directed by the Controller and the Payroll Supervisor.

     

    This position is responsible for assisting with timely administration of the above noted processes for nine separate sites geographically dispersed throughout the province, vendors, contractors and employees.

    When Applying

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma with two (3) or more years’ experience in an accounting or bookkeeping field; or,
    • Two (2) year Business Administration Diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution.
    • Two (2) to Five (5) years progressive Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll experience
    • Position requires a basic understanding and/or experience with general accounting principles, Payroll, AP, and/or AR.
