The Maintenance Worker performs specific maintenance, monitoring, testing and adjustments as required to various building, grounds, building environmental systems and equipment, as well as resident care equipment. Exercises good judgement and precedent in determining work methods used in accordance with the care team and in accordance with Covenant Care’s Mission, Vision, and Values, regulations and procedures.
- Completion of a High School Diploma, along with 5th Class Power Engineering certification or equivalent are required
- 1-2 years experience in building maintenance required, preferably in a health care setting
- Journeyman certificate in a related trade is an asset
- 3-5 years experience in the general trades, mechanical, plumbing and electrical an asset
- Must possess sound oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of regulations and municipal ordinances applicable within a health care setting
- Must maintain an Alberta Boiler Safety Association 5th Class power engineer’s certification.
- Able to spend considerable time walking through the facility.
- Must be able to adapt to different physical environments, working inside, outside and in enclosed or confined areas

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of care to residents by motivating and empowering the team. The LPN works cohesively with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the nursing process (Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) is individualized and ongoing, such that changing needs of residents are addressed and met. This is a leadership role requiring skills as a resident advocate, facilitator, change agent, educator and manager of resources.
This position requires strong critical thinking skills to ensure care plans are individualized to meet residents specific care needs and are they are being reassessed for ongoing updates as necessary. The ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of all resident, family and staff information is essential to delivering care.
The position requires the ability to communicate in all forms (reading, writing, clear verbal articulation and active listening) to implement recommendations and develop plans and procedures in accordance with Covenant Care’s protocol and also with applicable legislation. Information shared is highly technical and requires mathematical skills as well as the ability to read and analyze reports and data.
This position requires interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner. The ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing so others can easily interpret and understand fully is essential. Computer skills are also an important asset.
Educational / Professional Requirements for Position:
- Completion of a recognized Licensed Practical Nurses program required
- Currently registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the CLPNA
- BLS (Level C) Health Care Provider certification required
- 1 year of experience in an Assisted Living/Continuing Care facility preferred
- Exceptional written and verbal communication is required
- Computer skills and knowledge is an asset

About the Opportunity
Are you an RN looking to utilize or develop your leadership skills? If so, Covenant Care has an exciting opportunity in our brand new Long Term Care wing at our Villa Marie site in Red Deer.
In addition to providing direct nursing care, you will provide leadership to a team of Health Care Aides, LPNs, and other care staff, and work with the Clinical Lead to manage the overall provision of person centred care for Long Term Care patients.
The ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with care staff, nurse practitioners, patients and family members, family physicians, and professionals from other disciplines, will contribute to your success in this role.
Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program and current and ongoing registration and competency with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
